I will be teaching middle school students about the importance of mathematics in every aspect of life. Math is everywhere from measuring a cup of water- to estimating a tip for the waitress/waiter- to calculating the exact angle at which light reflects off a grain of sand (astronomical imaging). I want to give students a learning experience that is both engaging and challenging.
Outside the classroom-
I grew up in Cassville, WI and went to school at St. Charles Elementary School and Cassville High School. During those years I played football, basketball, and baseball and worked at my parents’ grocery store. I have always loved working with kids and playing sports. I worked at the Boys and Girls Club in La Crosse, where I planned activities and refereed youth football. Furthermore, I coached middle school volleyball at Lincoln Middle School in La Crosse. The past four summers I have been a counselor at the Loras All-Sports Camp in Dubuque, IA which is for students in 2nd – 9th grade. In my free time, I enjoy shooting hoops and attending sporting events. I am a Packers, Badgers, Brewers, Bucks, and of course Hornets fan! I even got the opportunity to attend the National Championship game in 2015 when Wisconsin played against Duke.
1. I played Rugby for a semester in college.
2. I won 6 Intramural Basketball Championships at Viterbo University.
3. I am the son of a former Wauzeka Hornet, Patty (Bay) Okey.
