I am the K-12 Instructional Coach for Wauzeka-Steuben School District. I work with all types of learners, from students to educators, with the goal of learning together, improving instruction, enhancing the learning environment, and most of all increasing student achievement. My goal is to help people with educational issues so we can all learn together to achieve our individual and school goals. While supporting students and educators, my main focus is to build positive relationships that connect students and educators, so the learning environment is effective and generates increased student achievement.
I am a Wauzeka-Steuben Alumni and returning to my roots as an educator and coach, I take pride in teaching and coaching all of our students. While teaching in the elementary at Wauzeka-Steuben over the past 21 years, I have found that I enjoyed the challenge of teaching first grade the best. I took joy in seeing the growth these student made in reading and math. It opened a whole new world to them as they really began to read, write, and do “real” math.
I have coached high school softball for over 26 years and have also enjoyed coaching volleyball and basketball at the high school and middle school levels. I have been chosen as Elementary Teacher of the Year, Ridge and Valley Softball Coach of the Year, and I am a volunteer member in our community and school. Some of the programs I have started or have been apart of are the 3rd and 4th grade Stingers Basketball Program, Lion’s Club and SWBL Basketball and Summer Recreation Baseball and Softball.
In the community, I am active in making sure our birth to preschool children and families educational and childcare needs are met. I have been our local non-profit daycare, Discovery on Dousman board, President for over 20 years and take pride in the fact that we recently added on to our facility to serve more families in Wauzeka and the surrounding areas.
When I’m not teaching and coaching, I can be found enjoying time with family and friends. My husband Bill and I have three children. You may see us at local and professional sporting events cheering on our teams especially the Wauzeka-Steuben Hornets, Crawford County Outlaws, Wisconsin Badgers, Packers, and the Brewers. Taking in a Brewers Spring Training game or two in Arizona is a highlight of some of our family vacations. Along with sports, I enjoy hunting and fishing with my family. We all love to be on the Mighty Mississippi fishing or relaxing on the beach. We have many memories of our November deer hunting seasons, and it’s even better when mom gets the biggest deer!
What you might not know
Here are some fun facts about me. I once sang a Beatle’s song in Arizona at a Brewers Spring Training game to an audience of over 6,000 people. I’m sure Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder loved it! While being an advocate for reading, I was called on stage by country singer Faith Hill at the Cadott Country Music Festival. Who knew making a poster that said I am a teacher would get me on stage with a celebrity!
Interestingly enough, I didn’t go to college right out of high school, in fact I was not college bound at all. I worked in a factory and decided to give college a try after two years of figuring life out. I attended UW-Richland Center and then graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors from UW-Platteville with a PreK-6 Grade Elementary Education degree.
This proves that if the right person or persons give you the right push you can achieve anything!
Lastly, I am amused with reading Seuss-isms. Here are some of my favorites:
We see them come.
We see them go.
Some are fast.
And some are slow.
Some are high.
And some are low.
Not one of them
Is like another.
Don’t ask us why.
Go ask your mother.
