Hello and Welcome to my 1st grade class! I’m Mrs. Sharon Martin!!
I teach growing young learners who love to come to school and have fun while learning without even knowing it. They are looking for praise, hugs, and smelly stickers on their good work. They are totally into crazy dancing and lots of movement. I believe that all children can learn, and I am here to help them become the best they can be! I love my work, and I enjoy working with children because they are like raw diamonds that I can shape into precious stones. I like to see how much they learn and change during their school year and throughout the years. I believe every child should be valued and treated with respect. An education should empower a child and help him or her make a positive contribution to our world.
I help give these young minds the confidence to grow as learners and people by treating others with respect, being responsible, and understanding that failure is oftentimes how we learn greater life lessons. WE, as a class, learn to express our ideas, listen to others’ ideas, and be comfortable with who we are, all while becoming readers, writers, and problem solvers.
I’ve learned over the years that sometimes my students can teach a concept to some of their peers better than I can. I’ve taught for 7 years at Wauzeka-Steuben in both 1st and 2nd grade. I help with the Summer Rec ball program, along with Lion’s Basketball and youth wrestling. I am also active in my church and help out in varying capacities there.
When I’m not at school,
I stay busy on the 320 acre farm that my husband Tom and I own. Together, we have 5 boys….Gabe, Zach, Nate, Jacob, and Joshua. We raise lots of beef cows (over 100) that we sell at local stores and markets, along with over 500 chickens a year that we sell to an area nursing home. We also have Sophie, our family dog, along with many cats….some have names but most don’t. As a family, we love to take family trips each year. We have been to Washington D.C., New Orleans, Yellowstone National Park, and many places in between. My dream vacation would be to venture to Ireland and Australia without my kids.
